There are many explanations and folk stories around the wedding veil. Ancient Rome and Greek believed that the veil served as a protection against evil spirit.

In those times the veil was worn to frighten evil spirits or disguise the bride from such spirit. For this reason her father had to “give her away” at the altar, this way he also escorted her and helped her navigate her way. However over the years the symbol of the veil changed and people now believe that the veil symbolizes obedience, modesty and purity. In the Christian setting the veil stands as a head covering.
