5 Tips For Planning A Personalized Wedding

Creating a wedding ceremony that is specific to you can be tough in Nigeria. You’d have to deal with your parents and your in-laws’ opinions about how they would like your wedding to look/ feel like. Half of the time, couples have to succumb to some of these demands; leading to a wedding that is more of their parents’ than theirs.

But is it completely impossible to have a personalised wedding? Of course not! Even if you have a family that’s adamant about their views on your wedding ceremony, you can still infuse your personal taste into it. After all, it’s your wedding!

  • Decide What You Want

Since you’re not all about doing the general procession most weddings have, your first step is deciding what you’d like. For example, if you’re not keen on having a wedding ceremony at your religious institution, you should consider asking/working with your religious leader to create a procession that fits into what you’re comfortable with.

  • Get A Team Early

The key to having a customised wedding is putting together a great team. You shouldn’t wait till it’s close to your wedding date before you start making your research. Since you’re making it special to you, consider looking for a team 4 - 5 months before your big day. That way, you’ll have enough time to properly plan and discover any loopholes.

  • Respect the Past

As engaged couples, one thing is inevitable; your parents’ choice. Respecting their ideas for your wedding will make it a lot easier for you to chip in your own ideas.

Work together to come up with a great plan as to how your wedding should be. It will mean you can bargain somethings (like your mum bringing a lot more guests than you envisioned) to get what you want.

  • Work Exclusively With Your Own Team

Your parents may want to be fully involved in the decision-making process. Let them understand why it’s not possible. Afterwards, you should work with a team that’s exclusive to you and your spouse. This means you will be sharing with them, your personalised themes and ideas for your wedding. It will make all the difference as they answer to you and your partner.

  • Do Some Personal DIYs

Whether it’s adding your favourite flowery patterns to your wedding gown, getting your best band, or adding some special finishing touches, you should go all the way! Customizing your wedding can be in grand or simple expressions.
