This week, we delved into the lives of Ayo (M 29) and Cynthia (F 25) (real names withheld) who, despite the hearsays about meeting in a club, fell in love.

How Did It Happen?

It was the strangest thing, to be honest. We bumped into each other on the way out of the club and I remember saying something like Ye! This girl has killed me. I think that’s what charmed her because she was laughing afterwards – Ayo

Cynthia: Actually, I told him afterwards that I was tipsy. That was well into when we got talking. Trust me, he wouldn’t have tried that and I’d respond at all on a normal day – Cynthia

What were the reactions of your friends when you started going out?

They completely didn’t see it going anywhere other than just vibes and sex

– Ayo.

It just seemed weird that you’d want to have anything to do with a random person at the club other than that. So yes, they were very sceptical at first

– Cynthia.

What were your reactions about each other at first?

(laughs)… I actually felt like I was making a big mistake, but she was so attractive. Nobody could easily just let go like that, but yeah, I was almost certain I was joking with my heart

– Ayo.

Me I wasn’t going to just allow anything happen without making sure I was doing it for my reasons. And he had a lot of cash… (laughs) so that helped a lot

 – Cynthia.

Who said “I love you” first?

He did – Cynthia.

What made you stick with your partner?

One time, I had a serious business issue that made me broke for about 2 months. She would occasionally order meals to my place and sometimes she came with some. I think it was during that period I knew she loves me a lot more than I thought. That’s probably when I decided I’d rather be stuck to her than anyone else

– Ayo.

I was looking forward to getting an employment letter from a dream job. It didn't happen and I was depressed for months. Throughout this period, he never backed out, he was always supportive especially mentally with his words of affirmation. It was this period I knew that he was really interested in my personal growth. Even when those days seemed bleak, he was there as a friend and more. I have so far gotten a lot more than I expected and he's part of the reason for my current success

– Cynthia.

Is this still the reason?

We never really have a reason why we stick to each other, we just do because it’s a beautiful space to be in

– Cynthia and Ayo.

Has anything changed?

There’s always something new to find out about her. So technically everything changes every time which is a great thing for me

– Ayo.

Everything except when he's a pain in the butt though... (laughs)

 – Cynthia.
