Party Chops: Wedding Menus Naija Style

The Main menu
Nigerian event menu’s cut right to the chase, no need for a starter WHY? Because Nigerians will fill up on that, haven’t you noticed our national complaint is the small bread portions we get while waiting for food. The main food menu usually includes either the Nigerian menu which includes your everyday staples such as vegetable stews, swallows, yam porridge, ofada rice and the almighty firewood cooked party Jollof rice or the Chinese option which is a Nigerian-sed rendition of Chinese food, this could either be a hit or miss – I was had the unfortunate pleasure of being offered Singapore noodles made with fat over cooked spaghetti, If you want proper quality Chinese served at your event, go through our registered vendors HERE, you won't be disappointed!

Weddings are an all day event, not just for the couple, but for their family and friends as well. Food is a big part of the celebrations in this part of the world and you are likely to be providing three square meals for some of your guests that day.

Here is our take on what your menu must include. Enjoy!

Small Chops
This category needs no introductions, it’s the life saver when the main meal is finished, it's what late comers to the wedding expect to meet, and when you inhale eat more that 4 portions it can be considered your main meal, it typically includes puff puff, mosa, spring rolls, samosa, chicken, gizzard, kebab, breaded prawns, yam chips, sometimes dodo, peppered snail, the list goes on and on, the guiding principle is anything that can be eaten with your fingers can be included.

Desserts
I’m convinced all Nigerians are born with a sweet tooth, what else can explain Lion sugars 50-year undisputed reign, with no advertising what so ever.

Desserts are new to the wedding menu in Nigeria, but are quickly becoming a necessity, the selection includes gateaus of different flavours, apple crumble, waffles, ice-cream, cream caramel, ice cream, trifle and more.

After party Chops
Weddings are all day events, and once the parents go home its time for everyone to hit the dance floor and party all night!!! Keep your guests energy up with after party chops such as shawarma, chicken and chips, fish and chips, mini-burgers, milkshakes, and possibly more small chops.

Any of these along with a healthy doze of alcohol and a great DJ is sure to make your party a hit.
