How Weddings Have Changed In The Last Decade

Weddings are timeless events. They are celebrations of love, and there's a reason we hold family heirlooms, traditions, and memories close to the heart.

Over the past 10 years, we've seen a constant change in trends and we largely owe that to the emergence of platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. The marrying generation has embraced everything from evolving technology and lifestyles to the combination and infusion of cultures, styles, and faiths.

Overall, the priority of this generation has shifted, and therefore, weddings have changed significantly. As millennials continue to drive the market for weddings, Gen Z is trickling into the wedding planning fold, which means things are going to keep getting interesting.

Here are a few things that have changed:

Customization

Couples are now customizing every detail of their wedding from their fully personalized stationery to how they approach entertainment. We are excited to see this trend with wedding continue in the next 10 years and become even more widespread."

Venues

Religious spaces remain the most popular venue option for ceremonies but there has been a significant decrease in the last decade. Couples are looking to blend multiple cultures and religious aspects into their ceremonies, leaving most partners in search of alternative locations.  In doing so, they can have a ceremony that fits them as a couple without limitations and restrictions.

Additionally, religious ceremonies are done, a lot more, in the same venue where the reception will take place. This is unlike the last decade where this was more or less a new trend.

Social Media

Before the advent of social media, wedding pictures were only accessible in the couple's home in a photo album.

The advent of Instagram made weddings accessible to everyone and as a result, weddings became Instagram ready and inspiration handier. Nothing beats a well put aesthetic.

The Wow Factor

From dance routines to incorporating old traditional activities, to having a themed party session, we've seen couples add a sprinkle of the unexpected to their ceremony. Who wouldn't want their special day to be the subject of a trending topic in a good way?

Finance

The most significant change is the investment people are prepared to make in their weddings; they have gone from being nicely designed and considered events to full-on productions.

Every single component—from printed goods to florals and décor to entertainment—has become a much bigger project and has, in turn, forced event planners and vendors to change the structure of their services.
