Being jealous in a relationship is a trait every partner exhibits. This is no problem as it means you are concerned about your partner and you are committed to the growth of the relationship. However, when jealousy is affecting your attitude it may be detrimental to the relationship. As it clouds your judgment and makes you see things from a one-sided perspective.

In this piece, I will be providing 8 ways to deal with jealousy in relationships.

  • Accept you have a jealous trait

Admit you are jealous, this is a hard step as no one will like to succumb to such. But then, the only way one can solve a problem is by first identifying it.

  • Trust your partner

To be involved in any relationship, trust is a major factor. Once trust exists all other things will fall in place. Trust your partner and let go of any insecurities as these insecurities will only pose as a problem and always remember that when there is trust, jealous dies down.

  • Do not rush into decisions, be calm, be logical and reason well

Once you suspect something wrong, be logical, and don’t jump into conclusion. Try as much as possible to be calm about it and this brings us to our next point below.

  • Talk to your partner and let them know how you feel

Talk to your partner, tell him or her the reason you are jealous and wait for an explanation. For Instance; I do not like the way the ladies were flocking around you with you smiling flirtingly at them. From there, you both can have a proper conversation.

  • Never snoop around their items

By this, I mean your partner’s phone and other personal gadgets hoping to find something to nail him/her with. Also do not stalk them on their social media pages, as it is of no help and will only aggravate the jealousy.

  • Appreciate your relationship and what you have together

Look on the brighter side of your partner, the good traits and qualities he/she possesses, how well you blend and complete each other. The things you do for each other that are so perfect and cannot be done by anyone else. By doing this, you let go of the hold of jealousy.

  • Examine if there is a former issue on the ground which you are upset about.

At times jealousy does not come out with an ignition force. Determine if there is a pre-existing issue yet to be resolved, for instance forgetting to pick the kids up from school or forgetting your birthday. Once this is figured, it is easier to let loose of jealousy.

  • Do not have a stereotyped view of your partner

Maybe because your ex hurt you so bad, you keep looking at your current partner the same way. Let go of former relationship burdens. People are not alike, just because Mr. A acts in this manner does not guarantee Mr. B will do the same, they are different entities.

I believe with this, how to tackle jealousy should no longer be an issue in our relationships.
