6 Things You Should Note About Changing Your Name

Getting married is a very beautiful adventure that two people are willing to take. However, for the person who’s changing the surname they have had all their lives, it is a very rocky adventure.

Here are some things you should know about changing your name:

  • It will take some getting used to

Yes. You may be somewhere and your name new name is called. You may even get upset and ask why your maiden name has not been called despite being there for a while. Then it will dawn on you that you’re the same person who had written down your new name.

 

  • Be prepared

Your marriage Certificate will be trending for a while

Your bank, companies, any other official status will demand for your marriage certificate before making anything official.  You may want to keep a copy of it at all times because you would be needing it even at the least expected places.

 

  • Your legal ID, and other documents will need some editing

This also means you would have to change all your public identification. Especially with some having a stressful process, it will take a lot of patience and energy to get all your documents well edited.

 

  • You may lose a lot of job offers

Changing your name also comes with its downsides like losing some job offers. Unless you’re fine with sticking to your maiden name after you get the offer, you may have to go extra lengths to ensure that all goes well.

 

  • You’d have to create a whole new signature

As exciting as having a new signature would sound, there are so many implications to it. It means changing your signature everywhere else it has been before.

 

  • Changing your name means changing your International Passport

This can take an excruciatingly long time to get done. You may also have to tender your marriage certificates more than once.
