After congratulatory messages that came with your engagement, you may want to start looking around for rolling eyes when you haven't tied the knot at the "expected time." So before you get a little confused with the aura you're getting from people, here are hints to show that your engagement is getting too long.

  • When is the Wedding?

You know you've been engaged for too long when everybody starts to ask about your wedding. This question will probably throw you off balance, especially if you have been postponing dates or aren't particularly sure of an exact date. Always expect that everyone will ask you this question constantly.

  • No Date In View

After engaging, couples are expected to marry in about five months or less than a year. If in your case you and your partner are not working on a date, then you're most likely going to be engaged for long.

  • Conflict Triggers

Long engagements can cause unnecessary issues. For instance, because you have a long time planning your wedding, you may have conflicts over tiny details. You will become preoccupied with trying to make your wedding perfect. In this process, you may become overwhelmed and eventually leave your relationship strained.

  • Getting Too Busy and Forgetful

Having a deadline to work with for your wedding is usually a good idea. Without this, you're prone to forgetting about plans and worse, get too busy. Eventually, you start shifting your wedding plans because of your busy schedule. If your relationship starts revolving around this cycle, you both may need to reflect on your readiness to spending a lifetime together.

  • Over Planning

More often than not, couples are obsessed with having a flawless wedding that they spend too much time planning and budgeting. Usually, over-the-budget plans or ''fantasy'' plans will keep lingering your actual wedding. Rather than stress yourself with so many uncertainties, create a realistic budget and work out a plan based on an agreed deadline.

  • Decision Making

You've been engaged for too long when you realise you can't make a firm decision as a couple about your wedding. You can easily get overwhelmed when you have too many options. When this happens, you tend to get confused which will complicate your decision. Most times, couples end up postponing their decision because of it.
