Marriage isn't the epitome of perfection. You and your spouse are bound to make mistakes. Even at this, there are some mistakes you can easily avoid. Understanding this will make it easier to have a long-lasting healthy relationship. So before everything gets complicated, check out these common mistakes and why you should avoid them.

  • Less Intimacy

This fit is quite common among couples who have been married for quite a while. It's normal to feel overwhelmed with work, children, bills and a lot more. But completely forgetting to be intimate with your spouse will only keep you both distant. Avoid this mistake with all your strength. Be conscious about hugging, kissing, planning trips, hangouts and even ''runaways'' to save your marriage.

  • Asking for advice from an external crew

Trust us on this; it's a bad idea. If you're going to involve anyone, let it be a counsellor. First of all, you have to realise that most times, your family or friends will give a biased judgement. Second, you'll be giving them room to disrespect your partner. Thirdly, you may get caught up in their web and make wrong choices which leave your marriage complicated.

  • Bringing back the past

There's a reason why the past is the past. Sometimes, couples hold on to grudges. In a bid to solve a current issue, they refer back to an incident that happened in the past. When this happens, it leads to unnecessary long arguments. It's a lot worse when both have settled the old conflict. You're going to strain your relationship when you keep doing this. Learn to move on and focus on resolving the problem you're both facing currently.

  • Expecting your spouse to be a mind-reader

Your spouse isn't Doctor Strange or has an inborn mind-reading ability. Neither do you. Couples believe that after spending so much time together, their partners should be able to predict their moods. While this can happen for more than half of the time, don't feel disappointed when it doesn't. Communicate your words instead of sulking about something that is beyond their power.

  • Keeping mute about finances

Half of the time, the reason for divorces is because of finances. Couples can be unwilling to be open about their money issues or financial situations. This mistake should be avoided. You and your spouse should be able to know what funds are coming in and going out.
