Starting a whole new life with someone you love can take all of your time. It's easy to get overwhelmed in your lives that you forget to keep in touch with the people who matter.

While this can be understandable, losing touch of your loved ones for a long time can sometimes make you feel lonely. If you're struggling with keeping in touch with family after marriage, here are some ways to having them close to you.

Always Call Them

Dedicate from 5 minutes - 3 hours each day, week, or month for your family. It's possible to be forgetful about keeping track. In this case, set a reminder and follow a strict guide to calling them. You may be uncertain about how consistent you will be, but choosing to call even when you don't feel like will keep you calling regularly.

Don't Procrastinate

Procrastination has trapped a lot of intended phone calls, visits, and text messages. Before you tell yourself you'll do it later, let it be the reason you're doing it immediately. As stated in the first point, following strict rules can help cut out your procrastinating.

Get Your Partner Involved

If you're struggling with keeping in touch with family, there's no better person to help out than your spouse. They can serve as your reminders, advisors, spokesperson amongst other things. Getting them involved will also help strengthen the bond between your spouse and your family. They can also help with planning visits to your family at intervals.

Have a Visit Day

If you live in the same state as your family, it will be a lot easier. Choose a day in the week or month where you and your spouse and kids go visit your parents. If you're living far away, you can plan a quarterly or yearly visit. In cases where this may not be possible, video calls and longer phone calls will help.

Respond To Them

Sometimes, even when our families are trying to keep in touch, we tend to ignore them. In a lot of cases, these happen innocently. For instance, getting a phone call from your mother while in a business meeting and forgetting to call them back. However, making conscious efforts to stay afloat the communication gap will help.

Always remind yourself to respond to their phone calls and messages. Constantly ignoring your family (deliberately or otherwise) will only distance you further.
