Have you ever been at a Nigerian wedding and thought to yourself, why is this happening?
There are about a thousand different situations that could pop up to make you roll your eyes but will make you laugh, only after they happen.
Here are thirteen inevitable situations that bring about those unfortunate things I desperately wish we could stop doing at Nigerian weddings.
- Bouncer Oppression
Bouncers should stop harassing guests that look like they are loaded with big bucks. The “anything for boys" line is getting old.
- Long-throat Vendors
All vendors should stop acting like they are owed a gift. Requesting for gifts or even food asides that which was set out for them is overstepping the boundary.
- Lustful Uncles
Tell the Daddies and Uncles in the house to stop toasting bridesmaids and young female guests that are way out of their league.
- Dishonest Food Vendors
Nigerian food vendors should stop hoarding the food and saying “it has finished oh!”
- Dry Joke MC
The MC should stop cracking dry jokes and expect everyone in the hall to sprawl over laughing at their jokes.
- Standing on Money Piles
Just allow the money to be picked up from the floor instead of stalling so that the couple will take pictures standing on a pile of mixed currency.
- Delegated Money Pickers
Why are the bridesmaids the commissioned people to pick up the sprayed money? It will be great if men get involved.
- Catching the Bouquet
Catching the bouquet is a form of entertainment that is only for the old folk. It's not a source of excitement to bridesmaids anymore.
- Sneaking Wedding Food Home
Stop requesting for the food to sneak home with when you have already been fed and filled heartily.
- Alcohol Junkie
Don’t hustle bottles of alcohol all to yourself at the wedding reception or even escape the wedding with it.
- Hoarding the Couple
Stop following the couple up and down; you will get your turn to exchange pleasantries.
- Hustling Wedding Favours
Wedding favours may not go around everyone at the wedding, and that's ok. Don’t take it 'personal' if you didn't get one.
- Bridal Party Dance
Do the bridal party really have to dance the couple in? We need to be more creative with wedding entertainment.
It's all getting old, will we leave these things alone in 2019 right?
