11 Qualities Your Partner MUST Possess Before You Commit

While we agree that our interest differs and what we want from our partners/relationships are different, there are certain qualities that must be on the ‘list’.

Here they are:

1. Maturity
This isn’t about a partner who acts ‘grown-up’, it’s about someone who knows what they should be doing. How running late for dates is wrong, understanding that not helping with the chores around the house is irresponsible regardless of your sex, and so on.

Being with a partner that is emotionally mature, who isn’t looking for someone else to compensate for their shortcomings or weaknesses, should be top your list.

2. Openness
Having a partner who is willing to be vulnerable and undefensive is priceless. You don’t want to have to deal with someone who is unapproachable and doesn’t accept feedback.

Openness is a sign of great personal development and often contributes to the development of a relationship.

3. Respect
Someone that has respect for your person, will be able to support you, treat you with such sensitivity and acknowledge boundaries.

They will not try to change you, and they will appreciate your independence.

4. Empathy
Why would you want someone who can’t empathize? It means you will not be able to communicate your feelings, because they will never really understand where you are coming from.

5. Sense of Humor
Of course we don’t all want comedians, but we should all want someone who has a healthy sense of humor. This will help you both go through some of the toughest times in the relationship, because you will be able to have a balanced perspective of issues.

being able to laugh sometimes is a relationship life saver. Life is serious as it is, you want someone who can tease and also can enjoy being teased.

6. Affection
An ideal partner must be affectionate verbally, emotionally and physically. They must be able to express their feelings in every way and they must also be able to enjoy affection with all pleasure.

It is an extremely important feeling to be able to accept and give affection. Don’t overlook this.

7. Honesty and Integrity
There is absolutely no way to build trust and a lasting relationship with someone who is dishonest and has no integrity.

If their actions and words don’t match, you should be scared. Deception and betrayal are probably what you will get from them.

8. Acceptance
It is not healthy to be with someone who wants to change your likes, tastes, dislikes, moods, and other innate personality. Compromise in a relationship doesn’t mean you should throw out yourself for the person they want you to be.

A good partner should love you because of EVERYTHING you represent.

9. Goals
You and your partner must be able to have goals that you both can support each other to achieve. If their goals in life is something you cannot support, or do not think you can approve of, you don’t need to be in a relationship with them.

10. Generosity
You can’t love without giving. Your time, your money and just your resources in general. If your partner is unwilling to ‘give’, the relationship us definitely going to be far from being healthy.

11. Chemistry
This isn’t overrated. You and your partner should be attracted to one another physically and emotionally. And this chemistry must be healthy enough to sustain the relationship over time.
