Wedding Guests Marvel At Hidden Secret Inside Couple's Wedding Cake

Wedding guests couldn't help but MARVEL at this clever wedding cake.

From the front, you’d never know what super powers it conceals - but take a look from the back and you discover it has a secret identity.

Happy couple Vicky and Daniel McCarthy delighted wedding guests with their five-stone wedding cake that took more than a week to construct.

Vicky, 34, said: “We didn’t want a traditional wedding – we wanted something a bit quirky.

“We had an Alice in Wonderland theme and I made everything myself as I knew in my head how I wanted it.”

But Marvel-obsessed groom Daniel – who has his own comic-themed ‘man cave’ at their New Marske home – decided that he also wanted input into the big day.

“Daniel said to me that he was happy to take a back seat as I’m quite creative.

“But he said in regards to some things can you ‘ask me’,” explains Vicky who then gave Daniel, 33, responsibility for the cake.

She said: “He suggested that we have a ‘half and half’ cake – something we both like, a bit of both.”

“Both of us are very OTT – we wanted something massive, not a piddly little thing.”

The pair enlisted the help of Hartlepool cake maker Corrine Winwood, 34, who runs Cozzmic Cakes.

Standing at more than a metre high the chocolate and vanilla fudge cake featured a traditional frontage and then each layer represented Daniel’s favourite Marvel heroes from behind.

Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Batman and Iron Man were all included in the design.

Vicky said: “I knew it was going to be big – but not that big!

“It took Daniel and his dad more than two hours to bring it 40 miles home in the car.

“We were both over the moon.”

The pair - who met at Captain Cook Primary School as children and started dating when they worked in neighbouring buildings 14 years ago – celebrated their big day at the Crab and Lobster near Thirsk at the beginning of March.

Vicky said: “People were walking back and forward past the cake and saying ‘oh my God!’

“Guests said they couldn’t believe the effort that had gone into it – and that it was the best wedding cake that they’d seen.”

She added: “We were eating cake for breakfast, lunch and tea for a week afterwards!”.
