Wedding Diaries: We Got a Crib!

So everything concerning the wedding is starting to fall in place…oh yeah we have new dates again but I think this is it, how do I know…well lets just say I feel it in my spirit.

Anyways, we just got our house…its really big and am wondering, how do we even start to decorate, plus the fact that Demola wants to change virtually everything-we are getting the ceiling changed, closets, bathroom fittings, windows and a brand new kitchen for me.

Yeah as you can imagine, am really excited about the kitchen, we have been window shopping for the last couple of weeks. My goodness, there are really nice kitchen fittings companies and brands in Nigeria. I mean I have heard all sort of names since we started shopping and I thought I would not be able to make up my mind but just the other day I found the ONE.

We are really excited about the house; it kind of puts everything into perspective for us. For me, the wedding is becoming real and more believable. Wow, I just had an epiphany, oh my gosh…I AM GETTING MARRIED!

You know its one thing to dream of a beautiful home, the décor, furnishing, wall colours and paper, dish wares, cook wares and so on, oh boy one area that is looking so distressing and not so encouraging is the finances for all of this.

Call us crazy, because honestly I don’t know what we were thinking planning a wedding and moving into a new house at the same time. Believe me our bank accounts are the worse hit at the moment. Can you imagine how much it cost a build and I emphasize on the word build a bedroom set…cheapest bill I have got so far-N210,000 for bed frame, side tables and a chest.

I really do thank God for my mother who taught me to always buy things; you know home things before I actually do need them. My bedroom is filled with stuffs I bought on various holidays and stuffs my friends bought for me.

Single ladies and brides to be take note- the trick is, always let your friends know what you like, you know your taste in home décor, my cousin Tosin taught me this and if you have good friends like I do, when they see something you like they will get it for you. Also, don’t wait till your wedding is round the corner before you start buying.

I finally found a way round the finances and budget for the house a few days back. We are going to split it but based on our individual incomes. Demola earns more than I do, so he’s getting the larger chunk…this works better yeah, it takes a lot of the pressure of him and I also will feel good when I walk into our home every day and see my little contributions here and there…

Everybody is happy innit…LOL!

Homely thots
