Ways to Mend a Broken Relationship

Every relationship goes through its challenging period. Disagreement and misunderstanding do not have to bring an end to a relationship especially if the parties involved still love each other and desire for the relationship to work out.

Here are possible steps to help mend the broken relationship;

1.    Identify the Issue
 There is always a cause for every problem, and this also applies to a relationship. Try to figure out the reason for the misunderstanding and disagreement.
This will help you find ways to address the issue and come to an agreement which should resolve the issue. So identify the cause of the problem first.

2.    Discuss the issue
Discuss the problem and avoid an argument. Pay active listening to each other. The discussion should be able to yield a positive result. While talking try to give full attention to your partner, your body language should reflect that you are interested in the discussion and make good eye contact also.

3.    Forgiveness
This is a fundamental virtue that should be in full abundance in any relationship. It can be quite difficult to forgive, but it has to be done to help the relationship.
To achieve forgiveness you have to be totally honest with your partner about the situation and avoid lies because it kills trust in a relationship. Also, put in the right effort that will lead to forgiveness.

4.    Patience
It is possible that after the discussion and honesty talk your partner won't forgive immediately. He or she may ask for time or space to help heal up. So you have to be patience, just give your partner space or time. Don't be all over the place trying to please your partner, this can just be annoying and may worsen things. Over time, the issue will be resolved, and you both will be back together and grow stronger together. Most importantly, exercise patience.

5.    Make a commitment
Commitment is a crucial factor that leads to the success of a relationship. You should both be committed to working towards a great relationship every day. This can be easily done by drafting a plan and stick to it. However, if the plans are not yielding results, then you should both agree to change the plan. Things won't be so easy but don't give up because good days will eventually come up.

Finally, if your relationship looks like things can't be sorted out, and every serious step you both have taken leads to something worse, or you both feel hurt all the time. I suggest you see a counsellor if you are both interested in making the relationship work or end the relationship.
