Lamu lies just south of the equator tucked among the Kenyas' lush tropical coast. This tranquil town was founded in the 14th century making it Kenya's oldest town as well as the best preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa. Staying true to its origins there is no motorised transportation on the island, instead all carriage happens with the aid of donkeys or traditional Arabic dhows.
