Should I Stay or Walk Away

Dear Mr Sugar,
My fiancé and I have been dating on and off for 7 years. We got back together late last year and he proposed. We set a date and started planning the wedding. Then we found out that the girl he dated while we were broken up was pregnant and she says it is his.

He’s always said he didn’t want children out of wedlock so I asked if he wanted to go and be with them. He said he wants to be with me. But he asked me if we could push the wedding a bit so he could be sure the child was his and sort out the situation. I agreed. Now the child has been born and he is playing the doting father. He keeps postponing taking a paternity test and is giving me different reasons why we can’t set another date yet. He says he loves me and apart from this, nothing else has changed. He’s still very caring and considerate except when it comes to this. I don’t want to turn into the nagging girlfriend. What should I do?

Dear Lara,
This is a rather complicated situation since you say nothing else has changed. I would advise you to forget about the 7 years and walk away. Your fiancé is clearly not ready at the moment and who is to say he ever will be or when he does, it will be to settle down with you. I have a strong feeling that if you do walk away, he will go back to the mother of his child and settle down with her. There a lot of baggage-free men out there looking for love, go and find the one who is willing to make you his priority.
