Should I Get Married for Money?

“I can’t eat rice in my father’s house and settle for garri in my husband’s house” - unknown

I had a wealthy friend who always said he was happy to have a woman marry him for his cash, that way he knew exactly how to keep her happy and there were no guessing games. Who would have thought there were men like this?

Money motivated marriages happen everyday and are spurred by various things; Family mergers, maintaining a certain lifestyle, lifestyle upgrades and more. While some argue that getting married for money is a ‘no no’, getting hitched for cash is as old as time itself. In a lot of cases, these marriages are successful since both parties have a clear understanding of each others expectations.

On the flip side, a man or woman who is worth billions today could be worth pennies tomorrow, so what happens to the marriage in cases like this?

The bottom line is to know that marriage is (or at least designed to be) a life-long commitment, so go in it with ideals you can adhere to (even if conditions change). Remember what works for A doesn’t necessarily work for B

Would you get married to someone primarily because of his or her money?
