An Efik and Itsekiri Union: Ifeoma and Kelly Emiko

The intense whirlwind that lasted for ten months and swept them off their feet, didn't stop until Mr and Mrs Emiko tied the knot recently at a colourful ceremony in Lagos. The couple who started dating three months after they met, were a mere four months into their relationship when Kelly proposed. Ifeoma who planned both weddings herself, chose Havilah hall of Events and KFA Events Centre Lekki for her traditional and white weddings respectively which held a day apart.

Ifeoma tells it best in her own words below.

Sugar Weddings:
Tell us about the proposal?

Ifeoma:
We met through a family friend of mine who is also his uncle. A few days to our family introduction, we still had to go and inform some family members about the introduction. While we were in the car with the driver driving, he looked into my eyes and called me by the Itsekiri name he had given me – Eyitami, then he popped the vintage question and my reply was a very sharp YES!

Sugar Weddings
You planned your weddings yourself, how long did it take?

Ifeoma:
It took me three months to plan them and I had to consider my culture (Efik) and his (Itsekiri). I chose deep Plum, Silver and Red as my colours.

Sugar Weddings:
Any tips for future brides?

Ifeoma:
Be as involved as you can with your wedding preparations and be prayerful. I wish I could have lost more body fat and I didn't stress out so much about doing aso-ebi for my friends. There are plenty other things to worry about.

Congratulations Ifeoma and Kelly, may this be the beginning of the best days of your lives.
