Recently a dear friends wedding took me all the way to, Mahe Island, Seychelles, possibly one of the most beautiful places in the world. Destination weddings are quickly becoming the latest craze, in the last alone, I know of three couples who had destination weddings, two in Seychelles, and one in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
So what's the fuss about? Though each couple has their unique reasons for planning a destination wedding, money is at the top of the list for most. Getting married in an exotic location can cost as low as a third of your average Nigerian wedding budget (which seems to be climbing everyday). Crowd control is another main reason, you can be rest assured that not all 1000 people who would have shown up happily at your Nigerian fiesta will travel with you. The main drawback here is your wedding becomes expensive to attend for your guests, but look at it this way, they get a vacation out of it and in some cases discover a new country!
