Busola and Emmanuel

An almost decade long romance was crowned with the recent wedding of Busola and Emmanuel. Celebrations started with the traditional engagement, held at Busola's family residence with colours, Olive and Gold setting the tone for the day. The wedding quickly followed a few days after at the RCCG Victory Chapel, Magodo followed by a beautiful reception infused with royal shades of purple and silver at the Darlington Hall in Ilu-peju. Their events took five months to plan without the help of a wedding planner.

“...I wanted everything exactly to our taste and I practically knew all the vendors I would use even before the proposal (most of them are my friends) But, I had a co-ordinator, Lapelle [Events] to follow up...” - Busola

The Proposal
Their love story is not complete without the mention of a mutual friend, “Mama”, who made the chance introduction of Busola to Emmanuel ten years ago. Fast forward to Valentines day 2010, after a sumptous dinner at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki. Busola and Emmanuel took a stroll by the pool as she showed him around the hotel (it was his first time at the Oriental). Emmanuel quickly seized the opportunity presented....

“..I noticed he was a bit nervous, looking around for the perfect spot (I think). We held hands and as he led me to the perfect spot, where everyone in the chinese restaurant above us could see us. Emmanuel casually asked, 'Remember when the pastor said that it is not good for a man to be a lone' and nonchalantly I said 'yeah' (That Sunday in church the pastor talked about how to choose your life partner). He turned around to face me, looked me in the eye and went down on one knee, brought out a white box and opened it, my mouth went agape, my heart started racing cause I knew what was next and I also couldn't get my eyes off the 3-stone diamond ring. Believe me when I say I didn't hear a word of what he was saying (I was too excited, overwhelmed and shy – all at once) until he said; 'Will you marry me?'...Smiling sheepishly, I managed to say yes and gave him the biggest and longest hug ever...my cheeks have never hurt so much from smiling. It was the best gift ever...I later had to ask him what he was saying before he popped the question...LOL...”

Unbeknownst to Busola, Emmanuel went to see her father a day prior to the proposal to ask his permission for his daughters hand in marriage.

Busola's Tips for Future Brides
  • Plan on time, don't wait to the last minute to start your plans.
  • You don't have to spend more than your budget to get a beautiful wedding. You also don't have to use the 'big name' vendors to get the job done. There are lots of good upcoming vendors who do beautiful work at pocket friendly prices (After all, how did the big names get started?).
  • Get good advice and be prayerful.
  • If you have the money to splurge – enjoy it, If not, please cut your coat according to the material. Wedding is only a day but marriage is forever (You don't want to start drinking garri after the wedding)

If I Could Do It Over...
I would delegate more duties
