To Bleach or Not to Bleach

If there is one topic that most Nigerians happen to have strong opinions on, it’s bleaching. There is always a buzz, be it positive or negative on bleaching. Long gone are the days when people secretly bleached and defended their change in skin colour with silly excuses like “Oh I’m always in air conditioned spaces” “it’s good life”. but these days’ people are more unapologetic for their choices in skin colour.

We’ve all seen countless cases where ladies go from a ‘Lupita’ to a ‘Beyonce’, oh yes! Sometimes it is that drastic a change.

It’s safe to say for the most part this is because most women who bleach believe lighter skin is more attractive. Bleaching is such a massive phenomena in Nigeria today that the country has the highest usage of bleaching products worldwide. New bleaching products like injections and , pills have hit the market and claim to work more effectively.

Sadly, most people are dismissive or ignorant of the fact that some of these products are very dangerous consequences of skin
bleaching include leukemia, liver cancers, kidney failures, as well as skin discolouration and scarring.

Whatever beauty choices you make, be sure to do your homework on the pros and cons.
