21 Questions for your Videographer

Professionally recorded footage provide the best medium to 'relive' your wedding day. When it comes to selecting a videographer for your wedding (or other event) a lot of factors come into play to ensure you find the best fit. Here are 21 questions to ask before hiring

  1. How long have you been in videography?
  2. Do you have samples of past similar work for you to view?
  3. How many cameras and team members will you have present for my event? 
  4. What type of equipment will you be filming with? 
  5. Have you ever worked at my venue? If not,  are you willing to do a site visit? (To quickly address any potential issues)
  6. How will you ensure optimal sound quality? Are additional microphones needed for speeches and important segments of the event?
  7. For how many hours will you record (start and end time)?
  8. How long will post-production take (How much time is needed to edit footage)?
  9. In what format will the final footage be delivered? Will it be branded according to my event:
  10. Who is responsible for providing the branded artwork?
  11. How many copies of the final cut will I receive?
  12. Will the event footage be used in any type of advertising?
  13. What is the back-up plan for emergencies (e.g. illness)? Will you be sending a substitute? (if yes, all questions apply to substitute as well)
  14. What is your total bill and what is included?
  15. What percentage of fees are due upfront?
  16. When is the balance due?
  17. How much do additional hours cost (if needed)?
  18. Will you be able to accommodate 'on the day' requests to extend hours?
  19. What is your cancellation and refund policy?
  20. What is the charge for additional copies of the final footage?
  21. How long will you retain original copies of the videos?

It is also important that you're comfortable with the videographer as you will likely spend a lot of time with them.
